Physics, biology, neuroscience, social science, information theory, computation, and AI all contain field-like descriptions, but the recurrence of one word does not establish one underlying reality. The scientifically interesting question is why field concepts repeatedly become useful when isolated objects can no longer explain distributed order, coupling, persistence, propagation, and coordinated change.
This article argues for comparison without premature unification. Field theories should be decomposed into explicit scientific contracts, relationships should be located on a ladder from terminology to predictive transfer rather than collapsed into equivalence, and metaphor should face interventional and falsification tests before acquiring scientific authority.
The result may not be a universal theory of fields. It may be something more useful: a rigorous way to discover exactly which cross-domain connections are real, which are partial, and which disappear under scrutiny.
