When I wrote the first edition of Intelligence Technology: The New IT in 2016, my goal was to highlight the paradigm shift technology was beginning to bring through the rapid evolution of robots in the corporate world. At that time, I believed — and still do — that the term “Information Technology” had become outdated. The new era we were entering demanded a term more aligned with the automation and intelligence of real-time systems, so I introduced “Intelligence Technology,” or The New IT. This vision emphasized technologies designed to produce and consume intelligence autonomously, whether by human team members or robotic systems.
In that first edition, I explored how this transition from Information Technology to Intelligence Technology would be essential for businesses adapting to a world where robotic and smart systems would increasingly handle processes and data. This new perspective presented robotics and AI as tools and integral forces that could reshape the nature of business processes, replacing traditional management systems with RPA (Robotic Process Automation) and even more advanced intelligent systems.
The Motivation for a New Edition
Since 2016, the world of AI, NLP, and robotics has advanced dramatically. Robotics has moved far beyond simple automation, entering every facet of industry with systems that adapt and learn in real-time, impacting decision-making in ways previously unimaginable. Today, we are surrounded by technologies that process information and make split-second decisions in high-stakes fields, from finance to healthcare, bringing Intelligence Technology to life in ways that my original vision had only begun to foresee.
Given this fast-paced evolution, I felt it was time to revisit The New IT with a new edition, one that offers a deeper and updated perspective. This edition incorporates significant advancements in artificial intelligence, NLP, and robotics, yet it remains anchored in the same principles. The concept of Intelligence Technology as a paradigm shift from Information Technology remains the heart of this book. However, this updated version delves into more sophisticated concepts, exploring not only RPA but also SPA (Smart Process Automation), the role of advanced NLP, and cognitive AI’s impact on automated decision-making and management.
Preserving the Original Vision
While this edition reflects the vast technological strides made in recent years, it remains true to my original vision. Intelligence Technology is more than a collection of tools; it is a transformation in how we approach systems, workflows, and decision-making in the digital world. AI, robotics, and NLP are not just enhancing productivity but redefining the boundaries of what machines and humans can achieve together.
This book continues to champion the potential of Intelligence Technology as a revolutionary force — one that reshapes not only business but also our understanding of intelligence and the evolving interaction between humans and robots. My aim is that this updated edition will provide a deeper understanding of these developments, while still adhering to the core belief that The New IT will be the driving force behind the new era of automation, intelligence, and productivity.
I hope that as you explore this new edition, you share the excitement and curiosity that this evolving field continues to inspire in me. May this journey through The New IT serve as both a guide and an inspiration as we navigate the opportunities and responsibilities of the future shaped by AI, robotics, and real-time intelligent systems.
Thank you, and enjoy the journey!
